The Gazette Virginian - Members of the Burton family, school officials and students cut the ribbon Thursday morning officially opening the J. E. Burton Construction Company Inc. Pro-Engineering Computer Aided Design (CAD) Lab at the STEM Center.

The Halifax County Industrial Development Authority met with Ralph Torning, International Trade Manger for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the IDA office.  Ralph discussed benefits such as a comprehensive export assistance to Virginia businesses, one and two year export training programs (AIM and VALET) to help a company become export savvy, free export consultations, export compliance training sessions, and other export support services from the professionals of the International Trade Team at VEDP.

GOVERNOR KAINE ANNOUNCES 50 NEW JOBS FOR HALIFAX COUNTY
~ LASCO Bathware to invest $1.7 million to expand manufacturing~

January 23, RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that LASCO Bathware, Inc. will invest $1.7 million to expand in Halifax County. The company, which will expand its manufacturing operation to include an additional line of upscale bathware marketed under their “Aquatic” label, will create 50 jobs and save an existing 280 jobs. Virginia successfully competed with Michigan, Texas and Washington for the project.

Members of the Halifax County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) on Friday morning unanimously approved the employment of Michael A. Sexton as the new IDA Executive Director.
