Halifax Regional Hospital Expansion Update

Halifax Regional Hospital is currently undergoing an expansion that will add a two new floors with a total of 40 patient rooms (20 rooms on each new floor). One of the major benefits to patients and their families is that all of the new rooms will be private rooms.

HRH is following a Planetree model for the project; the goal of the Planetree initiative is to personalize, humanize and demystify healthcare.

Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel Groundbreaking

The Marriott Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel broke ground on its new hotel Thursday, April 24, 2008 in Halifax County, Virginia. The hotel will be located on Highway 58 (Bill Tuck Highway) between Highway US 360 and 501 beside Slagle’s Fire Equipment & Supply Company, Inc. The hotel will accommodate 86 rooms, a conference room, an outdoor patio, and an indoor pool. The hotel will create 22-25 new jobs.

Grand Opening of Gloster Furniture, Inc.

Gloster Furniture, Inc will hold a Grand Opening of its new facility at 1075 Fulp Industrial Road in South Boston, VA on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 4:30pm-5:30pm. The building (the former O’Sullivan Industries building) is 670,000 square feet located in the Halifax County Industrial Park. The move enabled Gloster to consolidate its sales, customer support and distribution operations under one roof.

Petty Enterprises Donates Cars to VIPER

The Virginia Institute for Performance and Engineering Research (VIPER) was the recipient of two retired No. 43 Nextel Cup race cars from Petty Enterprises for research tools. The cars were donated by Richard Petty and son Kyle to VIPER for use by mechanical engineering graduate students pursuing degrees at VIPER. The facility is located at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Halifax County, VA.

Halifax County re-designated as VA Enterprise Zone Community

Governor Kaine has approved Halifax County’s application for re-designation as a Virginia Enterprise Zone community. Qualifying entities located within the defined boundaries of the Halifax County Enterprise Zone are eligible to receive state-based grants in return for investments in real property and for job creation. In addition, there are a series of local incentives available from the County of Halifax and the Town of South Boston.
